Walkers Sensations conceived a brief where they were looking to spruce up their current packaging and introduce it to a new market, with an emphasis on making sure that the re-packaging involved a unique concept but held its premium feeling. My response was making the crisps into 'pub' crisps, where it would reach new audiences, such as families. I took inspiration for the designs from pub carpets I recorded around Nottingham and added a more premium feel to them by hand-drawing and watercolouring the packaging designs. Furthermore, I introduced an origami element to the inside of the packaging, which would inspire more customers, particularly children, to try the product, keep them busy whilst parents could drink and talk, and try new flavours they normally wouldn't (as each flavour would create a different origami model).
Sensations Pub Crisps Re-Packaging
PACKAGING
The re-packaging introduced four re-designs of current Walkers Sensations flavours, as well as a newly imagined 'Pumpkin Spice' flavour. The packaging is made to stand out on shelves but hold its premium feeling by utilising a watercolour and drawn design of a pattern that relates to the flavour itself. Once finishing the crisps, the consumer could cut open the packaging to reveal an origami fold blueprint. On the back of the packet is a QR code, taking them to a short YouTube video on how to make the origami. These models would then relate to the crisps flavour (e.g. balsamic vinegar and sea salt = a boat).
pOSTERS
Posters were also conceptualised to visualise how the crisps could be advertised to the general public. These featured images show the crisps packaging in their original form and their origami form.
